“Do a little more each day than you think you possibly can.”
Gifted education has been maligned recently as elitist and unnecessary in our current educational environment of testing and standardization. At Noble Academy, we feel that gifted children deserve to be served just like any other special population.
We understand that the gifted learn differently and need to have teachers and that are responsive to this very real issue.
We don’t believe that a child should be told that they are allowed to be gifted once a week in a pull-out program that only scratches the surface of their capabilities.
Therefore, we will begin identifying and serving our gifted students in a classroom-based, tracked system that challenges and nurtures each child’s talents and gifts.
While our teachers will continue to differentiate their instruction in the classroom to challenge and support all learners, we will also offer specially tracked classes in reading and math for students who are accelerated in these areas.
While we are limiting our program to two core areas for the pilot year, we are confident that we will be able to add the other two cores as well as courses in the fine arts. We will begin testing students for this program at the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year and will honor any WEPs that come from other districts. We are very excited about this program and feel it will benefit our students greatly.
